Covid-19: 8 new clusters identified

Petaling Jaya – Eight new clusters have been detected in the country with three of them in Sabah, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The other new clusters were one each in Putrajaya-Selangor, Kuala Lumpur-Selangor, Penang, Sarawak and Johor-Melaka.

Dr Noor Hisham said the new clusters in Sabah were the Sabaru cluster in Lahad Datu, Tomher cluster in Ranau, and the Garden cluster in Tawau.

The index case of the Sabaru cluster was identified from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 3, he added.

A total of 1,627 individuals have been screened from this cluster, where 88 tested positive, 22 tested negative, and 1,517 others were still waiting for their results.

Dr Noor Hisham said that in the Tomher cluster, a high risk screening of construction workers has been ongoing since Nov 9.

A total of 276 individuals have been screened in this cluster, where 20 tested positive, six tested negative and 250 others were still waiting for their results.

In the Garden cluster, the index case was detected from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 7, and a total of 35 individuals have been tested here.

Of the 35 individuals, 11 tested positive, and 24 tested negative, he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Putra-18 cluster, which was detected in Putrajaya as well as in Petaling and Sepang in Selangor, was detected from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 14.

A total of 52 individuals have been screened in this cluster, of which seven tested positive and 45 others were still waiting for their results.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the new Murni cluster was detected in Cheras and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur as well as in Petaling, Selangor.

“The index case of this cluster was detected from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 15, ” he said told a press briefing on Wednesday (Nov 18).

He added that a total of 17 individuals have been screened, where seven tested positive, eight were negative while two others were still waiting for their results.

Dr Noor Hisham said the new Penang cluster was detected on the eastern part of the state.

“The index case of the cluster was detected from a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 11.

“A total of 24 individuals have been detected, where 11 tested positive and 13 others were still waiting for results, ” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said the new cluster in Besi Demak was detected in Kuching, Sarawak, and the index case tested positive during a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 15.

A total of 237 individuals have been screened in this cluster, where five tested positive, 22 tested negative and 12 others were still waiting for their results.

He added that a new cluster detected in Tangkak, Johor and in Melaka Tengah, Melaka, is known as the Parit Kassan cluster.

The index case here tested positive during a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 13.

“A total of 105 individuals have been screened, where 11 tested positive, 70 tested negative, and 24 others are still waiting for their results, ” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said three clusters have also ended: the Kencana, Bah Sintok and Seri Anggerik clusters. – The Star
