Kedah MB failed to honour promise made to two federal ministers on temple demolitions – Saravanan

Kuala Lumpur- “PAS led Kedah Menteri Besar, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had failed to honour the promise he made to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of National Unity, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Saddique and me on demolitions of temples in the state,” said Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, Human Resources Minister in a press release today.

“We went to meet him in person on 26th July this year and discussed about the status of temples in the state,” he added.

According to the Deputy President of MIC, he (Kedah MB) during the round table discussion promised to inform Datuk Halimah and him if there is any temple demolition prior to any enforcement. In fact, he (MB), gave such assurance for all places of worship in the state.

However, the Menteri Besar blatantly disregarded the promise made to two Federal Ministers and gave instruction to demolish a temple in the state recently.

“I am disappointed and this goes against the spirit of a national coalition government. A decline in support from Indians to this coalition government in the future is due to the deceitful actions of Kedah MB,” stressed Saravanan.

It is clear that the Kedah MB had abused the power bestowed upon him by allowing demolition of temples without proper consultation. He should also stop misleading the rakyat and explain what had transpired before issuing statements.

“I urge the MB to clarify his stand on temples and places of worships in the state,” said Saravanan.

Saravanan also said that MIC has been in contact with several National PAS leaders with regards to this matter and seeking their explanation on this issue.

“It is high time for PAS to prove that they are a government for all races and religion in this beloved nation,” he urged.
