20,579 new Covid-19 cases recorded

Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia reported 20,579 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,706,089.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 20,845 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,422,005.

There are now 267,997 active cases, with 1,009 patients being treated in intensive care and 477 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 285 deaths take the number of fatalities past the 16,000 mark to 16,087.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 4,591.

This was followed by Sabah (2,578), Sarawak (2,522), Johor (1,852), Kedah (1,755), Penang (1,378), Kelantan (1,316), Perak (1,208), Pahang (839), Terengganu (789), Kuala Lumpur (680), Melaka (636), Negeri Sembilan (329), Perlis (56), Putrajaya (48) and Labuan (2).
