KUALA LUMPUR — Men’s doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are just one step away from repeating their All England achievement of reaching the final in 2019 as they secured a spot in the semi-finals on Friday.
The world No. 5 defeated former champions Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana of Indonesia 21-14, 21-11 in the quarter-final at Utilita Arena, Birmingham.
It marked Aaron-Wooi Yik’s fourth consecutive win against the Indonesian pair.
“We were confident and played to our game style today,” said Wooi Yik to the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Aaron-Wooi Yik hope to have a second shot at winning the title after the heartbreak in 2019, where they lost to Indonesia’s Mohamad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the final.
The former world champions will face Taiwan’s Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan in the semi-finals later on Saturday.
Despite winning all three previous meetings against their opponents, Aaron-Wooi Yik will still take a cautious approach during the match
“Our opponents tomorrow (today) won’t be easy as they have been playing very well lately. So, we need to be careful,” said Aaron.
