Petaling Jaya – The health ministry has reported a record high 20,596 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, breaching the 20,000 mark for the first time.
In a tweet, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,203,706.
Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were a record high 13,893 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 976,626.
There are now 217,061 active cases, with 1,078 patients being treated in intensive care and 549 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 164 deaths take the number of fatalities past the 10,000 mark to 10,019.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 8,549.
This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,163), Kedah (1,446), Johor (1,300), Sabah (1,062), Penang (1,022), Negeri Sembilan (989), Perak (916), Sarawak (759), Kelantan (772) Melaka (622), Terengganu (501), Pahang (426), Putrajaya (50), Labuan (15) and Perlis (4).
