MISSOURI — A baby tragically lost her life in Kansas City, Missouri, after being placed in an oven by her own mother.
According to Sky News, the mother of the infant, Mariah Thomas, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following the incident.
Authorities were alerted to the situation on Friday afternoon when they received a call reporting an infant in respiratory distress.
The report said upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders were met with a harrowing sight – the child displayed apparent burns and was unresponsive.
Despite their efforts, the baby was pronounced dead on-site.
Details emerging from a probable cause statement shed light on the sequence of events leading to this unthinkable tragedy.
According to a witness account provided to responders, the mother, in a grievous error, placed the infant in the oven instead of her crib, intending to put her down for a nap.
However, the statement did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding this fatal mistake.
