Covid-19 : 20,780 new cases recorded

Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia reported 20,780 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,320,547.

It is just 109 short of the record high 20,899 cases reported on Aug 6.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 17,973 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,075,816.

There are now 233,258 active cases, with 1,053 patients being treated in intensive care and 546 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 211 deaths take the number of fatalities to 11,373.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 6,921.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,065), Johor (1,693), Kedah (1,534), Sabah (1,514), Penang (1,385), Kelantan (1,284), Negeri Sembilan (1,015), Perak (828), Melaka (636), Sarawak (634), Terengganu (613), Pahang (585), Putrajaya (41), Perlis (29) and Labuan (3).
