Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia today recorded 98 deaths, the highest number of Covid-19 fatalities in a single day since the pandemic hit the country last year.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 27 of these deaths were reported in Selangor, 14 each in Johor and Kuala Lumpur, eight each in Kedah and Negri Sembilan, five each in Sarawak and Penang, four each in Sabah and Terengganu, three in Pahang, two each in Kelantan and Melaka, and one each in Perak and Labuan.
All the deaths involved Malaysians, aged between 18 and 91. Eight of them were brought in dead at healthcare facilities, he said in a statement.
The oldest patient, Dr Noor Hisham said, was a woman who died at the Sunway Hospital in Selangor.
She had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems.
The youngest patient was a man with a history of asthma, who died at Tunku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.
Most of deaths involved patients with underlying medical conditions such as heart and chronic kidney diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problem, asthma, and stroke. Fifteen of them had chronic ailments. – NST
