Kuala Lumpur – Datuk Ramesh Kodammal has been reappointed as the co-chairman of ASEAN-India Business Council (AIBC) for a period of three years effective Jan 1, 2021.
Ramesh said he received the letter of appointment from Senior minister cum Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali yesterday (Jan 19).
“With this reappointment, I intend to work and intensify business to business connectivity with a view to raise the level of engagement to a more strategic level that could contribute to further expansion in trade and investments between ASEAN and India.
“The council will also be consulting the businesses in the region to gather feedback on the proposed review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement which was signed in 2009,” he told Bernama.
He said the review would provide additional push required to raise the level of engagement .
“It is hoped that the review will lead to further reduction and elimination of duty on products that are still not fully incorporated into the free trade agreement,” he said.
Ramesh, who has been AIBC chairman since 2013, said efforts were continually being undertaken to request India to reconsider its decison and join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement that could lead to further integration of the two regions as well as to integrate into the growing regional business value chain activities. – Bernama
